While there was plenty of culinary history being made at the Congress, by late Tuesday afternoon, I and many other Americans at the Congress were interested in observing history of a different sort - the inauguration of the first black President of the United States - Barack Obama. As such, a number of us left the Congress early in order to find a place to watch the inauguration. Harold McGee and I joined a mass of American ex-pats and visitors at the Hotel InterContinental, where a number of large screen tv's were set up within a large ballroom. The scene was euphoric as Barack Obama became President of the United States.
