Spring arrives later in Northeastern New York and New England than it does most anywhere else in the country. When I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, the month of March ushered in the spring rather than the mid to late April or even in some years May of the north woods. Wherever I have lived that has a true change of seasons, there has, however, always been a special, transient color of green as the tree leaf buds emerge into the new warmth. I like to call this color "incipient" green as it provides a reassuring confirmation of the rebirth taking place around us.
