The season for local corn has finally arrived! According to farmer Albert Sheldon of Sheldon Farm, it has been an awfully trying summer for corn, with several frosts nearly wiping out their crop. While there might not be a superabundance of this summer staple, the quality of what there is remains high. I was at the Sheldon Farm market on Saturday to pick up corn, green beans, peaches, tomatoes and a few other items in bulk for a graduation party that we were preparing for our son. As far as I'm concerned, we are at the peak of the summer growing season with nearly everything now available. Of course, the season for a few items like fresh shell peas has essentially passed, but nothing speaks of the height of the season around here like fresh corn and heirloom tomatoes.
