April was a relatively light restaurant month for me, as we ate a lot at home. I did have some nice restaurant meals, however, the foremost being:
- Max London's Restaurant in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - Max always does a very nice job. One evening I was at home by myself, so I drove down to Saratoga to have a simple meal at Max London's.That was a charmed night as I ran into and had dinner with my friend Rocky and saw a number of other people I knew as well. Sitting at the bar, my dinner rocked. I had a bit of a special pastrami sandwich, some perfect ricotta croquettas and a delicious porchetta-like stuffed rabbit loin wrapped with crisp serrano ham. The pear and almond tart for dessert wasn't too shabby either.
- Carpenter & Main in Norwich, Vt. Though nothing groundbreaking or overly audacious, chef Bruce MacLeod, does a fine job of using excellent regional ingredients and skilled technique to produce satisfying French influenced food in a lovely setting.
- The Jewel of India in Hanover, N.H. - An excellent Indian restaurant in Hanover? I never would have predicted it, but there it was. We had a number of different dishes without a clunker in the bunch. I particularly enjoyed the Shrimp Saag.
