Beer is generally not my drink of choice. It is not that I don't like it, I just usually prefer wine. However, the other night, while dining at a surprisingly good Indian restaurant, The Jewel of India, in Hanover, N.H., I had a beer that made me sit up and take notice. I had previously tried the Quebec origin Unibroue beers at the Starchefs International Chefs Congress in NYC, of which they are one of the sponsors. I liked them there, which is why I ordered one here, but the Fin du Monde really stood out paired with the mutli spiced Indian dishes. I enjoyed it's delicious, complex flavor profile so much, I went out and bought more along with a few other Unibroue varieties at the Food Co-op in West Lebanon, N.H.

Ah, la fin du monde...one of the greatest beers out there...i recommend chimay red in a similar genre, and the ommegang family of beers (can you say New York Pride?)

Thanks for your comments, Greg and Chad.
I do like the Ommegang beers as well and Chimay is one of the greats too. Cold Mexican beers hit the spot too, though I prefer Negro Modelo to Dos Equis.
I bought a couple other interesting beers this weekend that I plan on trying soon. I will report back.
I chose the Fin du Monde as my TOTW because I was so surprised at how much I liked it, especially in the context in which I drank it. There were a few dishes from last weekend's Slow Food potluck and from this past weekend that were serious contenders, but it is just so unusual for me to get so excited about a beer.
